I agree with you.
They make a Black Man Captain America with a supporting actor instead of a lead actor,
i think they are regretting that now. they nerfed the role way back when by picking mackie and are now stuck with it.
mackie put on his concerned-face in the trailer when talking to pres ford but it's not convincing.
he is that bad.
and then it is hobbled by other production choices which have led to numerous reshoots.
REFUSE to give the character superpowers,
it could work without powers if they did it properly. from the trailer it looks like they are going to give him a suit made of "something special".
the problem is that mackie is not only a bad actor he is also short and lacks hero athleticism, jawline (making the mask look ill-fitting), hairline.
they established the character by setting him him up as a joker side-kick who got humbled by steve (the man he is trying to replace), winter soldier and even another joker ant-man.
now they are having difficulty flipping that script.
instead of something grandiose we get something small scale that looks like it was made for Disney+ instead of theaters, they then recycle elements that were done in previous movies (The Winter Soldier) so when this one drops the narrative will be the previous movie "DID IT BETTER" "it's a rehash" leaving this movie as a footnote and nothing more.
DISNEY aint shyt
i believe winter soldier II could work if done properly. why not?
coming 2nd to winter soldier in and of itself would not be such a bad thing.
in BB4 the directors tried some new things. some worked. some didn't. but at least they gave some thought to how they would present elements that we have seen 1009 times before on screen (i.e. shootouts).
the russo bros did the same thing. in WS, CW - cap stealth suit. new cap fighting using martial arts, cap mask off to deliver the final blow, shield bouncing at interesting angles (on the ship, in the building), close-close combat (elevator), high impact fall, cap and bucky sharing the shield to beat-down iron man. all new ideas which elevated their work above the action in cap 1. elevated due to creativity not CGI extravaganza. then they added nods to classics - bucky getting the shield, bucky punching the shield.
it elevated cap ( a hero with pretty basic powers ) to a fan fav badass.
what new or interesting in power presentation did we see in this trailer.
compare: two same-powered heroes on screen together shots
the russos even took the time to make sure that they drew their hands back in a synchronised manner when preparing to punch.
why not dovetail the two falcons .. like birds .. like jets flying in formation.
people miss those details but those details all add up.
