Set to launch in November, Spider-Woman will centre around lead character Jessica Drew and her adventures within "the multidimensional insanity that is Spider-Verse."
"Jessica Drew has been an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D., and agent of S.W.O.R.D., an Avenger and so much more," reads a description of Spider-Woman #1. "A war is brewing, and every spider-character in the multiverse is a target! But being a target is something Jessica Drew just won’t abide. She’s a woman with a mission and with Silk, the newest spider-character on the block at her side, she’ll have to put all her training to the test if she wants to make it out of Spider-Verse alive!"
The main cover, which features Spider-Woman and her new sidekick Silk appearing to burst forth from a web, was drawn (or as comics site The Outhouse put it, traced "from a porn DVD freeze frame") by Land.
Many online expressed disappointment in Marvel, which earlier this summer announced that it was turning Thor into a woman and thatCaptain America would become a black man in future comics.
"Anyone familiar with pornography knows this pose Spider-Woman Jessica Drew is positioned in is ripped straight from the fantasy medium," she continued, noting that the cover resembles another of Manara's artworks from the Italian erotic comic book Click!
