Oscar-winning director Martin Scorsese, center, on the set of Shutter Island with Leonardo DiCaprio, Ben Kingsley, and Mark Ruffalo.

Ashecliffe will take place before the events of the Shutter Island film, with the show's title also serving as the name of the mental hospital from the movie. The series will focus on the hospital's past.

As for Scorsese, this wouldn't be the first time he's directed a show for HBO. He helmed the pilot for Boardwalk Empire and is working on a rock 'n' roll project with Mick Jagger about a cocaine-fueled record executive in the 1970s for the premium cable network.

What the hell could this be about? The movie is really straightforward, without any greater mythology to it

They are doing the SHUTTER ISLAND series about events that took place before the movie. They say the series will revolve around the HOSPITAL (ASHECLIFF) from the movie.

I find it odd HBO would do this since they have THE KNICK (I know it's on Cinemax) but HBO owns Cinemax and their mandate is to do different type of shows on the two networks. Guess Scorsese was too hard to turn down.

I don't like tv seires based off the movie, it's just not feel right to me.

I don't think think will happen cause remember he was planned to do Goodfellas tv series on AMC? and nothing happen right?
