Marshawn Lynch didn't say much at last year's Super Bowl XLIX Media Day, but just about the only thing he did say is now a registered trademark.
On Tuesday, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office granted the Seattle Seahawks running back the trademark to his phrase "I'm Just Here So I Won't Get Fined."
Lynch used that line to answer more than 20 questions that day and filed to trademark the phrase less than three weeks later.
In April, Lynch started putting in on apparel for his BeastMode line and currently sells a T-shirt with the phrase on it for $34.
Lynch also filed for the trademark to "About That Action Boss," which is what he uttered to NFL Network's Deion Sanders at the Super Bowl XLVIII media day. Lynch decided to abandon his pursuit of that trademark just 10 days ago.
Lynch is now the owner of four registered trademarks. He received one trademark to BeastMode in 2009 and two others in 2014.
This year, Lynch has done endorsement work for Skittles, Pepsi, and underwear brand PSD, which has a BeastMode sub line. He also debuted a signature casual shoe through sneaker retailer Greats.
When athletes say something that they, or their agents, think is marketable, they often are running to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office to claim ownership. Washington Wizards forward Paul Pierce filed for the trademark "I Called Game" and Washington Redskins quarterback Kirk Cousins filed for the trademark to "You Like That" and is selling T-shirts with the phrase.
Lynch has only played in seven games this year due to injury. He had abdominal surgery to fix his sports hernia five weeks ago and could return this week. Depending on how things shake out, the Seahawks -- who play the Arizona Cardinals this weekend -- could be either the fifth or sixth seed in the NFC.
Before the season, Lynch agreed to a three-year contract which pays him a total of $12 million, in salary and signing bonus, this season.
