it hurt the show imo. Will was much better when he wasn't an absurd character just solely trying to do shyt for laughs but in the later seasons he doing his best Marlon impression, but to be fair... there was that mid 90s period where they wanted Marlon was the one they wanted to be Robin in Batman movies and shyt... there was a period where he was a step ahead of Will, then he did his own family shyt.

Will went on to do MIB, rest is history.

now Marlon playing Will's dad on Bel-Air :ohhh:

anyway ignore me, i thought he answered the question about the slap really nicely too. not sounding like a bytch. a lot of comedians like "we gotta be scared now" marlon like "we got to be ready" :russ:

i'ma still watch though. i want to hear what he thinks about will because i think will literally stole his comedy style in the later seasons of fresh prince.

You gonna have to explain this one. Marlon’s only comedy chops by 1996 was In Living Color where he was playing characters for a couple of seasons and Don’t Be a Menace. Will was already doing that act by ‘93.

Marlon could have and probably should have done dramatic acting more, imo.

This....because I always pegged Will as channeling Eddie Murphy.

this is an example of what i'm talking about

compare it to season 1-2 will...

one is a person the other is just... yeah absurdity for absurdity sake

I think by the time Fresh Prince was in its later years, Will was improvising at least half of what he said and did. I highly doubt this was in the script. He also said that the show was getting more hokey by season five which is why he felt the need to end it, but he was just as responsible for that happening as anyone else. He became more over-the-top as time went on and was an executive producer. You can't become more hokey without signing off on everything yourself.

I don't think he was imitating Marlon, though. The Wayans Bros. wasn't at that level in 1996. If anything, Will was probably competing with Alfonso Ribeiro because Carlton was an over-the-top character, so they were having contests to see who could overact the most. Will also worked with Martin Lawrence, and I definitely see Martin in Will's performance. And then Eddie Murphy like another poster said.

This should be a thread, honestly. :ohhh:
