(Reuters) - New Hampshire's Democratic governor on Thursday vetoed a bill passed by the Republican-controlled legislature that would legalize medical marijuana in the state, bucking a trend towards legalization in New England.
Governor John Lynch said the measure did not provide sufficient restrictions on the cultivation and prescription of marijuana. He also opposes provisions authorizing teenagers to use it for treatment.
"I cannot support establishing a system for the use of medical marijuana that poses risks to the patient, lacks adequate oversight and funding, and risks the proliferation of a serious drug," Lynch said.
For the moment, Lynch's move halts the spread of medical marijuana dispensaries in New England.
Maine, Rhode Island, Connecticut and Vermont have all legalized pot for medical use in recent years. Massachusetts voters will decide whether to legalize use in a ballot measure in November.

Rather people discuss/fight for full decriminalization of weed and other illicit drugs, (but that's my bias) because I don't care for the PIC nor like seeing blacks railroaded into the system since drugs are still readily available in the black (underground) market to make a buck in but legit economic development and job opportunities aren't in concentrated black areas- but that's another discussion.
How do you even push an agenda like this to succeed when in different states and nationally (both parties) are so entrenched to the status quo and special interests for an issue like medical marijuana?
Do you keep fighting and put individuals into both parties that can agree on issues like these to achieve your agenda-change from with inside the system? Or do you purse change from outside the system or wait for demographic changes in hopes things will change in the future due to different attitudes of a new generation taking over social/political institutions?
Sorry if this story has been posted but what are your thoughts on a group achieving success in w.e agenda they push within this country linking back to those questions and medical marijuana as an example?
Thought it was a little interesting that even medical marijuana was blocked in a state that prides itself on the motto "live free or die"
