Former champion Marcos Maidana (35-5, 31KOs) says one thing is for sure, he will fight again in 2015. Following his rematch loss to Floyd Mayweather Jr., Maidana wondered if he would fight again. The Argentine boxer is only 31-years-old and his family would like to see him hang up the gloves but he already made a decision to continue fighting.
Maidana says his career goal has already been accomplished, to face the fighter recognized as the number one boxer in the world.
"Yes [my family would like me to retire], but I made a decision. I plan to continue. If a good fight comes along, we will accept it. I already achieved the goal in mind. I wanted to fight with the best, with the [fighter recognized as] number one. I got to that point and, well, I could not beat him. Now we have to wait and if something good comes along, a big fight, I'll fight," Maidana told Fox Deportes.
After two fights with Mayweather, Maidana has openly called for a fight with WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao, who faces undefeated Chris Algieri on November 22nd in Macau, China.
After a few more weeks of relaxing with his family, Maidana plans to reunite with trainer Robert Garcia in Oxnard, California.
Unlike the match with Mayweather, Maidana expects a very exciting contest with Pacquiao, because of their respective fighting styles.
"A fight with him would be very good because of the way he fights. Before the second fight with Mayweather, Top Rank had offered a fight with him but we preferred to face Mayweather because we were familiar with him and we were hoping to win. We thought we were going to win because the first fight had been close. We decided to grab Mayweather, so we'll see if next year [we can get Pacquiao]," Maidana said.
