Man of Steel beats The Avengers midnight show. On track $100M weekend (no spoilers)

It's not going to do Avengers weekend numbers...but still considered a success. The sequel and the Justice League movie has already been greenlit because of the buzz.

this third Superman franchise begins its North American run with a cume of $21M. “Off to a flying start!!!” A studio exec gushed to me just now. The number ranks 7th among late show records, behind only the Harry Potter and Twilight franchises, but ahead of The Hunger Games. It’s also the all-time highest superhero late show record, surpassing The Avengers’ remarkable $18.7M and The Dark Knight‘s $18.5M. The more equal comparison would be June 2005′s Batman Begins which was the first of the trilogy and grossed $1.6M at midnight while June 2006′s Superman Returns reboot made $4.9M and July 2012′s The Amazing Spider-Man redo earned $7.5M.

This third Superman franchise goes wide today in a whopping 4,207 locations which is the 2nd widest release ever for a non-sequel: 850 are 2D only, and the remaining venues will play in 3D with a 2D component. Tracking has ranged from Warner Bros’ lowball $80sM aimed a managing expectations to rival studio projections around $95M-$100M. According to both fandango and MovieTickets.com, domestic advance ticket sales accounted for over 85% of total daily transactions Thursday and today.

I think this is the first time I might end up disagreeing with the critics. All my favorite websites (movie news, screenwriting etc) love it, and the old school media seems to hate it.

That just means that Movie Reviewers today are clowns who I"m noticing like to give bad ratings to draw attention to themselves. And their biases come across clear as day. They all want to be on some ole look at me type shyt.

Movie viewer ratings are better than critics ratings.

Latino-Review and Ain'tItCool (various reviewers) have given it good reviews. So that's what I'm going to listen to. I don't disagree with RottenTomatoes much but this time I probably will.

yep.. absolutely no doubt about that these days.. look at 95-98% fresh movies, look at the negative reviews, and its absolutely ridiculous

obviously doing it for more clicks, i refuse to give it to them

Or hold on to their shyt until the last second to ruin a critically acclaimed movie.

I understand your logic. But this is a Box Office numbers thread. I don't think it belongs in the Man of Steel thread. Especially since there are a bunch of spoilers in there right now.

Saw that shyt in IMAX 3-D and I was like for almost the whole thing.
The critics who gave it bad reviews were on that dust because this movie was great.
