I think Berkeley, Ca is the only city that recognizes it as an official day. Hopefully it becomes federally recognized at some point. One of the true greats of American history.
His parents were a part of the Garvey and Pan Africanist movement he was raised on that. His siblings said they went to the Nation because it was the closes thing they had to Garvey.
After a while he began to go back to a Pan Africanist view point rather than just a black nationalist theocracy. He really didn't have time to get his organization off the ground before they snipped him.
