turning the channel after having my intelligence insulted watching wwf. To that one faithful night and seeing the much better hulk Hogan in magnum Ta. With real dangerous villains with stables and real evil Russian who were actually believeable was like night and day. Plus the fact this was the first times I ever learned to care for a hero. As I literally witnessed the hero actually lose and lose bad.

I dunno about the Hogan comparison since Dusty was almost on that level in a NWA manner. I look at dude as the closest thing to a working class Ric Flair:

• Cut a mean promo
• Has the looks
• Good worker
• Motorcycle>>>>Jet/limo

Followed up with the spiked piledriver and magnum never returned. [of which was my first time ever seeing and still is the most effective injury angle I ever saw as magnum never returned].
Leaving the NWA and our child like hopes in the depths of good ole boi evil horsemen hell.

As a kid,....

Watching him triumph over odds to win big.

Then lose bad or get thebshyt kicked out of him bh the horseman. Then, when you think he was the shyt. Nikita koloff, the real Nikita is opposite him. Giving you the real battle of what you missed out on in wwf's Hogan versus their koloff.

It was like night and day watching NWA and that bullshyt ripoff wwf back then. To the point wwf has never been as good as the nwa was via quality.

Literally, when I got my mania III taoe back I paid forty dollars for mania for. When I got that bullshyt and knowing I just watched a superior NWA shoe for free was the Last straw. Plus, magnum was no longer there anymore by that time too. so till sting came from uwf after magnum I had no favorite wrassler after wonderful and magnum disappeared. Yet here comes duhtay to literally make a boyhood dream come true. Then also create the reality of the real world as well. She the horsemen chased duhtsy down and beat the shyt outta him with no backup weighted enough to stop the horsemen, now magnum was gone.


Just truly incredible television and WWf literally ripped us all off and still rips is off to this day with the same low brow low quality bullshyt.

Before chicago got tci cable. Which was only for white people in the burbs back then. As cable was not even in the city. Have you hoping NWA will show this match in its entirety on the broadcast past your bedtime. That you begged and connived your way to Stay up and watch.

I remember praying I was gone see magnum actually get tully to quit and get the belt. Then when he did it, feeling I was conflicted and too young to be watching the outcome. As that was like the first time I saw a hero, my hero go to that length. In what was basically a comic code child restricted based life for kids back then that young.
Had me wondering like damn,..
It take more than a leg drop to beat a real bad guy. Who also happened to be the first bad guy I actually liked in tully. Back before liking a bad guy even existed.
as a cognitive idea for a kid that young in my Gen then.

Magnum was great but I think the injury has created this crazy ass folklore about him and how he was more than what he really was. He was going to be a star but he would have never been as big outside of the south.

Here's my take I believe @Art Barr and I is around the same age, so I can speak on this from a person that was alive and In tune with that era of time.

Magnum T.A. was to be NWA and their territories answer to Up North WWF Hulk Hogan.

Magnum TA was over in the Southern parts of mid West territories he was just as or more popular than Hogan in those territories. NWA took their time and groomed Magnum TA, he had the look, in ring work, could talk and had the blue collar workers and his Magnum PI looks brought in the women and teeny hoppers.

Magnum TA was a damn good wrestler more arsenal than Hogan, had great matches again Tully Blanchard, Ivan Koloff.

Magnum TA was big and was over.

Is he a better in ring wrestler than Hogan, yes he was. Because WWF held Hogan back.

But also, wasn't the NWA a heel territory? Basically, his star power was dependent upon Ric and the Horsemen giving him their blessings and not burying them.
