My top songs:
1a) Strange Fruition
1b) Hood Now
3) Form Follows Function

The rest don't really matter.

If you took my 3 songs, and removed them from the album. What are you left with? You can see a SEVERE musical drop off between the composition of these 3 songs and the rest of the album.

This is not to say I don't like lambo angels or bytch bad. I actually really rock with lambo angels because of its connection to Enemy of the State (which I loved btw).

But I'm looking at this from a musical perspective. Do I love the lyrics, absolutely. Do I love the message, absolutely. But again, take those 3 songs, listen to them back to back to back. Then go listen to "Put em Up." Like, the shyt doesn't mix.

I feel like I'm being tricked by the beats on the rest of the album. For example, "heart donor" has a horrible hook. BUT. That beat hits and you find yourself nodding and cruising hard while cursing at the fukkn donor part. Lupe, you ain't need to trick me b. Half the time I'm confused and asking myself, "Do I like the song? Or do I like the drums that the lyrics are attached to?" And as a person that loves listening to ignorant ass trap music, I've never once thought that.

Oh and I do find myself confused by the story in "Bad bytch." Personally I feel like Lupe has the characters confused. To me I'd think the better story is the girl following her mother/sisters/cousins saying they're bad bytches. And boys around the computer and or king magazines looking at bad bytches.

But I've come to the realization that Lupe is an international rapper. He does songs for more than just my ilk. So I have to deal with songs like "Unforgivable Youth" that will be adored overseas. Eh.....

But I bought the album and supported!!!!

Thanks for breaking it down for the brother. I've come to realize that Lupe really talked over alot of people's heads with this album. Really profound shyt he was spitting throughout. I really haven't heard another MC with as much mastery over his craft since Pac, real talk.

Lupe is truly on an entirely different level right now. Those calling this album wack really need to sit down, put on some headphones, and really listen to what this guy is saying. Unforgivable youth, BraveHeart, and ITAL Roses are especially profound..

This brother gets it. :wow:

The hook for Strange Fruition is powerful

Made in pain, the strangest things you ever seen
Oh, look at how they swing, would you look at how they swing?
They ain't dead though
No I ain't die y'all
I cut myself down
Admire my fall

word. Problem is, some of these cats just wont get it... even when he dumbs down the lyrics and keeps the message like on LASERS they still dont get it or hate on it (probably w/o even listening). A lot of these niccaz swear theyre smart and gettin it, then they quote some throw away lines meant to be throw away lines for the rapper he's portraying (Nicki Minaj) and they think he actually penned and used throw away lines. After hearing all his discography from the mixtapes to F&L to TC to this they really suggested he used some throw aways. That tells me nyuckaz aint listenin or simply arent capable of getting it.

howd that hook go?

We aint graduate from school Lu, dumb it down.

And I hate to suggest what I just did about people but they expose themselves at every turn. Like I dont think Im some super smart nicca, but I listen and comprehend, sometimes I catch more after the fact. And I respect writers. I respect someone that can weave multiple themes into a verse and still flow and make that bytch rhyme. Thats much more respectable than a nicca who can rhyme boss and ross in every flow about moving weight on every track.

At the end of the day, if I liked dumb ass shyt more than music with a meaning I suppose Id be pissed at Lupe too. Like why do I gotta listen to these dumb ass niccaz rap about coke when niccaz that like music with a little depth to it get to listen to the young gawd? Why didnt the boy choose to rap about Caine and guns... Id be jealous too. Like if the only person that rapped with substance was Chief Keef or some shyt I'd be fukcin pissed.

to each his own though.

Unforgivable Youth is probably the best song on this album.

Beautiful shyt.

While this song does indeed suffer from a weak hook, the lyrics are absolutely mindblowing. The last verse where he raps about how archeologists in the future would analyze our remains and what observations they would make had me like...:ohhh:

Met Lupe yesterday, he was doing a record/autograph signing right on the East Side of Detroit. Ended up buying the album again  had to support though. He could have easily went to the suburbs and went to a Best Buy like Slaughterhouse did.
