stopped reading right there
that's fine, but it's all opinions homey. And in mines, the majority of these beats are underwhelming even for an underground album. None of them really stand out for me except for Around My Way and that's because it's an updated version of the TROY beat. And the hooks are even moreso bad than the beats. I was wondering what you guys were getting hype over when I heard Lupe make a kissing sound as a part of his hook
:snoop:

AND I LIKE LUPE. One of the best rappers in the game since he debuted to me...but this ain't gonna cut it. I read a theory on rapreviews.com (I know...) that Lupe might've just been throwing this and part two together to get his 5 albums done with so he can leave the label. I can't disagree with that assumption based on what kind of beats they used, but at the same time Lupe spit his ass off. I can't imagine him getting much significantly better beats than the ones he had on this album for the foreseeable future
powerful

the bolded is when I really connected with this post, and read the whole thing :wow:

:manny: Lupe isn't a stranger to corny/bad hooks, but I can usually get over them when the production is good. I can't even say that for this album.

black love, unity, and music
As strong as Lupe is on this album, it's clearly his second weakest (or third best) album. The beats are lacking from start to finish, and some of the hooks are basura. I wouldn't dare put this up against either F&L or The Cool unless we talking about lyrically. I'm debating with myself to cop because the album I'm expecting from Lupe might never come, but I don't wanna reward this album for it's mediocrity.

shut yo cheap ass up. the album is good. Quit being a bytch and cop

Got nothing to do with being cheap. I support my favorite artists when they release albums that I believe to be worth it or at the very least I anticipate to be amazing. This album is neither. I think I'm gonna cop F&L and/or The Cool instead.

You talking about the voice warm part?

He refers to himself three times, and then says three 'mi's as in the musical progression (do-re-mi-fa-so-la-ti); adds a fourth in the next line and the chorus follows. Picks it back up with a fifth and a sixth once the next verse starts.

fukk outta here you retard.......Battle Scars makes Green Day sound like Infamous Mobb. This is one of the whitest sounding hip hop albums ever.

The Booth is never lacking in horrible posts.

i might be crazy but heart donor goes hard listen a few more times.. the beat is crazy and lupe spittin

Heart Donor hook and beat are both dooooooope. Most underrated song on there IMO. "Everything I got..I give it all to you. My heart and my soul...I give it all to you...IMA HEART DONAHHHHHHRRRR"

The hooks on this album are strong throughout. They're just DIFFERENT. You don't hear nikkas talking about empathy and sympathy for the old and poor on hooks like that. shyt is just a different and I think people interpret the positivity and weirdness of the hooks as corny/bad. The best hooks are ITAL, Around My Way, Lamborghini Angels(GENIUS), Unforgivable Youth and of course PUT EM UP.

Someone said this album is the weakest for him hooks wise and I disagree completely. I'd say it goes F&L II>F&L>The Cool>Lasers easily.

Over a week in and it's safe to say Battle Scars is my least favorite song but I still like it. Both verses are strong. The analogy with love and war was executed perfectly. Guy Sebastian can sing his ass off too, but it's a lil too radio for my tastes to escape the bottom tier of this album.

I would say my top 5 RIGHT NOW is

1. ITAL
2. Strange Fruition
3. Put Em' Up
4. Form Follows Function
5. Unforgivable Youth

Top 4 will never change, but Unforgivable Youth gets swapped with How Dare You, Hood Now, Audobon Ballroom, Lambo Angels and Heart Donor a lot.

9 days in and I'm not tired of this album at all. That's my future GOAT brehs :to:

Over a thousand post in this thread but how many of you went and brought the album?

True. Got mine on release date.

Ive never been a lupe fan but i gotta admit, dude is gifted with wordplay and lyrics. He can really spit with the best of them if not better.

Having said that, i cannot get into his albums. Musically it just isnt there for me. Some of his songs hit the mark but most are just not the type of tracks i can bump on a reg. Too much singing for my taste and too many electronic sounding beats dont cut it for me. But the man can rhyme his ass off ..too bad i aint feelin his actual songs for the most part. I do hope he does well sales wise even tho a lot of his shyt doesnt sound as hip hop as id like.

Out of all the negative posts, I can rock with this one. Can tell you're coming from an honest, fair place and that you have respect for the talent.

Maybe some of it will grow on you in the future. I'd suggest checking out his first 2 mixtapes and Enemy of the State if you want him rapping over that raw, "traditional" production. None of his 4 albums have that traditional sound outside of a handful of tracks. Always was a little weird/different with the beats. F&L II is easily his most modern sounding/sonically conforming album to date.

Lupe was on Letterman last night performing a song, I didn't stay to up watch it though :ehh:

Form Follows Function....

it's. just. good. It's like he's just playin with n!ggas on this song. On some, "I'm gonna show n!ggas how good I can rhyme." Sh!t's like MJ against the Blazers in the first half of the Finals. He sounds effortless on that sh!t. Damn.
