Fam....once again you Lupe fans need to make peace with the fact that the kind of rap you're talking about was never popping like that. Not now....not during the Golden Era....whichever you consider, 80's or 90's. So that's why cats ain't checking for him like that....it has nothing to do with "symbolism and allegorical imagery". You have no idea who you're talking to in these threads, or what their grasp is of anything. You're just making wild assumptions based on cats not liking Lupe's music.

And like it or not popularity goes hand in hand with whether or not people are checking for an artist. You cats are making this shyt 100x more complicated than it needs to be....I been into rap since 1984....let's say, during the 90's for example....Pac, BONE, Wu, Outkast, Nas, Death Row, BIG, etc. was the popular artists.
Ras Kass wasn't selling 5 mill. Com's "Resurrection" wasn't going diamond.The most lyrical cats wasn't running anything....it was the people that could craft the best music. And by Lupe's own admission, he's lacking in that regard....which is cool, there's different lanes....but instead of accepting that his music is niche, and as such is only going to reach a limited amount of people....you want to assume people don't understand the "allegorical imagery". Which is, to be blunt, fukking silly. It's the exact same argument as "you don't listen to (insert popular artist), you don't get p*ssy"....just on the opposite end of the spectrum.

Not feelin Lu? Have you checked that nikka resume? Platinum singles, grammy, top 10 hits, gold albums, sold out tours even in today all while he had no team, no dr dre, no big features, no popular producers, etc. For having no huge machine or budget or commercial gimmicks Lupe has done well for himself in his career. Kendrick has alot of stuff working in his favor, that industry budget for one...
Nikkas actin like Lupe never had people fukking with him is laughable.

I never said anything about people never fukking with Lupe. I never said anything remotely similar to that.
I specifically said the more lyrical, abstract shyt Lupe has done recently. Which ain't setting the world on fire like that. The last gold album he had was "Lasers" which was terrible. His last plat single came out 6 years ago, for Christ sake.
Again....by his own admission he don't care about making the best music anymore, just crafting the best bars. Which is cool but his music has suffered because of it.
This angle don't work anymore as Kendrick outsold and got more critical acclaim than Drake in 2017. Hell, even prior to that Kendrick had the critical acclaim and Drake had sales, so there was always a division (prior to 2017, anyway) as to what their respective fan bases could brag about. And with Kendrick, it was always his talent. Drake, it was his numbers.

Tetsuo and youth was a strong album with strong concepts, hell kendrick even grabbed some ideas from it for damn.

My favorite album from Kendrick is Section 80 but GKMC is the album that would be considered classic based on the impact it had.
