I feel like He Say, She Say is a timeless record. The simplicity and the repeated verses is what I like about it the most. One of my favorite Lupe tracks honestly.
I like the song, but it wasn’t hella creative like people made it out to be at the time. I guess I feel a writer of Lupe’s caliber could’ve pushed it even further.

again...the whole song was about "control" who is controlling rap..its essentially a brag song so im not sure what you expected him to go deep into... but he was on topic and creative with it....if he didnt say shyt then neither did sean or jay :yeshrug:

...but then he came with the BET cypher which i like better

but i think i get what you saying that the song on its own wasnt enough to put kendrick on top of the game. i think it was that there was a lot leading up to it....the cosign by dre and passing the torch, gkmc...then he made it official by calling out people. so no, the song alone wasnt enough but he kinda put it on wax what had been happening in real life

Yeah, the one line about pajamas was more potent than all those names after Drake caught feelings.

Kendrick is doing his thing but he ain't gain 'control' of rap off that verse. He got it from marketing and taking the ball Interscope gave him and running with it. He's doing his part and nobody should hate him for it.

But Lupe is a different animal...that Control shyt was light in comparison to the dudes that lie outside of the mainstream framework. Lupe is and kinda always has been right on that fringe.

It's pretty dope the way it is if you ask me. We've gotten enough complex Lupe to go through, I like straight forward Lu... songs like He Say She Say, Hood Now, Next 2 It... all get the point across and nikkas don't have to pull out encyclopedias to get it either.

:manny:

EDIT: Never thought about it, but Kendrick's song Lust has a similar song structure to He Say She Say
:ehh:

Kendrick has a 3rd verse, but yal get it.

This is what I'm talking about. You completely miss all his symbolism and what's going on in his verses because you have this western mentality of its just music let's party and get wild. fukk off. Talking about its just music when there's a 50 page thread on the lyricism between these 2. What are you talking about just enjoy the music?

Nobody said anything about "let's just party and get wild". Hip-hop isn't binary....it isn't "let me break out my decoder ring for this Lupe verse" or "mindless party music". You cats gotta stop getting defensive and assuming people don't "get" his music. It's not that people don't get it....it's not that people don't understand it....it's just that the type of Lupe verses you guys bust nuts over was never the dominant sound at any point in hip-hop history....that's facts.

So based on that there's going to be a decent chunk of people completely indifferent to him. You cats try to act like you're smarter than everyone for enjoying Lupe then throw tantrums like children when people disagree. The two are at odds with each other.

Nothing g to do with being smart. It's about being aware of symbolism and aleggorical imigary. It's a difference between being smart and being aware. I'm not smart I dropped it of school at 16 and have brain damage from boxing and drug/alcohol abuse. It's not about being smart.

Truth, y'all acting like Biggie Smalls was some lyrical wizard When he wasn't, In fact he was very similar to Kendrick Lamar. Biggie Smalls was a StoryTeller, point blank, that's why he was called the Black Alfred Hitchcock

Hard to deny Biggie as a rapper.but im not that impressed by his lyricism, especially when you factor in the lack of substance like you said. but hey,Alfred Hitchcock was overated too:francis:

But i guess his rambling quoteables outmatch Kendricks substantive raps that have been said to change lives:martin:
