I like the end product of k.dot music but in pure bars, he ain't no hov or no Nas or in this case, Lupe. Fantastic artist though and easily the best of his generation.

what part of his control verse didn't make sense to you :jbhmm::mjlol:

if you don't like it, you don't like it but to say its gibberish...seems like you just skim music or only have the attention span for the name drop part :hubie:
which is weird if you championing lupe who is hard af to breakdown lately

Lupe is hard to breakdown because he is going way over western people's heads with his concepts. You need to be part of a native culture to understand lupe not a westerner. Same with jay elect. The symbolism on the song dimethyltryptamine is better than anything kendrick has ever done. Lupe and jay electronica are on another level.

I'm Makaveli's offspring, I'm the king of New York
King of the Coast, one hand, I juggle them both

:ohlawd:

the juggernaut's all in your jugular, you take me for jokes

i think lupe made the major mistake of only considering the name drop part of control when he made those tweets, which is what most people focus on anyway and the most basic part. aside from the name drop part, i think the rest of the control verse had the wordplay and punchlines lupe was crying about.

i dont think his earlier stuff was as esoteric

“I will take rap to where nikkas can’t conceive
To the point where nikkas can’t agree on which song is best
And the argument is if I am better than me”

You a low-key Lupe fan and don’t even know it, Billy. :wow:

Give him a second....

This is what I'm talking about. You completely miss all his symbolism and what's going on in his verses because you have this western mentality of its just music let's party and get wild. fukk off. Talking about its just music when there's a 50 page thread on the lyricism between these 2. What are you talking about just enjoy the music?

I like Kendrick, the entire control verse was fluff really. The only reason why people focus on the name drops is because that's the only part that stood out.

Funny shyt is it wasn't even really a battle cry like that..shyt was light but in this era the fact that someone in the mainstream would opening call out names in a competitive fashion on some rap shyt was way outside of the norm.

It's to the point people didn't even know how to respond...Kendrick stans gonna say "drop a better album"...Lupe came with:

To no reply besides Kendrick going and doing an album that could be played in reverse like you know who.

:mjlol:, Lupe is insecure he told himself on this track he said that he feels Kendrick is using his style, fukk outta here Lu, female traits.

And Lu called his fans Stans (Stan the homosexual, male crush fanatic of Marshall) and they have to go to Harvard to be his fans:martin:

You call it fluff but Joell Ortiz, Jay Elect and Lupe didn't think so:jbhmm:

It was fluff, which is why people concentrated on the name drops. That's all there really was be the way of "control"...he was able to make the internet go nuts by saying some rappers names.

Lupe did worse than call it fluff, he called him a biter and said that the notion that he's controlling rap, because of his raps is hilarious.

"What happened to the game? nikkas think they jappin cuz they rappin like they Wayne
Rappin like they Chainz...
I ain't matchin him, in plat-i-num but I'm rappin like I'm flames

Like smackin them in the back of him and my antonyms is on cain
My heroine is on metaphores and my metaphors is on brains
And my left foot is in LA, and my right foot is in Spain
Now we all heard what he said...well what he said means we dead, and that shyt is insane!
He so crazy, look at the lil baby.
nikka you aint Nas, nikka you ain't Jay Z
You will respect me, you will reject me
But I've done so much, no matter how far you go, you will reflect me"

idk what you mean by fluff. it was a brag rap which is the majority of rap so you cant hold it against him...but faaaaar from your generic "i got more money hoes and clothes than you" brag rap.

Fluff in comparison to it's 'impact'.

He wasn't really saying shyt, the shock and awe came from a new era rapper actually looking to compete. Drake was butt-hurt and started sending subs just off of that. But he wasn't really going that hard in that verse.

again...the whole song was about "control" who is controlling rap..its essentially a brag song so im not sure what you expected him to go deep into... but he was on topic and creative with it....if he didnt say shyt then neither did sean or jay :yeshrug:

...but then he came with the BET cypher which i like better

but i think i get what you saying that the song on its own wasnt enough to put kendrick on top of the game. i think it was that there was a lot leading up to it....the cosign by dre and passing the torch, gkmc...then he made it official by calling out people. so no, the song alone wasnt enough but he kinda put it on wax what had been happening in real life
