Fam you think the players are making bank and the teams aren’t? League revenue is split 50% so if the players are making more money than ever, so are the teams, a stoppage benefits no one

Also the team owners are the ones who pushed for things like the supermax and 2nd apron. Maybe they should’ve focused on the potential consequences instead of making stopping the Warriors their #1 priority :manny:
The issue is the new supermax nba contracts kick in now ($300-400 million) — I dont think the new TV deal revenues start kicking in until a few years from now. Or at least enough return to cover the new contracts. So for now the owners are actually paying out of pocket for these contracts, which is probably why so many owners have tried to sell recently

These owners are rich obviously but they also buy teams to be turn key businesses (instant profitable or sustainable). With the new contracts it just makes it like any other business investment that they now will only see gains after a few years and they didnt sign up for that. So like @Houston911 said a lock out is probably coming soon.

I know folk in the league that said they would have traded the house if they knew Luka was available. The HOUSE. Not the kitchen. Not the living room. THE ENTIRE HOUSE. Come on man, everything is available for Luka but Jokic, Giannis, and Wemby.

I agree with you if they got assurance he was gonna sign an extension with whatever team he was traded to.

Luka balls every night.

What the fukk is your dumbass even talking about?

Mavs not paying Luka has absolutely nothing to do with his weight. Don't fall for the okey doke. In reality, he gave them every reason to pay him the supermax. He brought them back from irrelevancy and generated them a ton of revenue along the way. Other than Jokic, Steph and Giannis, no other player has done more for their respective franchise over the last half a decade.

I can't believe some of y'all are so hung up on this conditioning bullshyt.

Was conditioning a problem when he averaged 40 minutes last postseason and took them to the Finals?

Yeah, shyt is wild

80% of the nba is overpaid (not including rookie deal guys)

Luka is in that 20% of grossly underpaid guys

This shyt is nuts

If the player qualifies for the supermax based on the current qualifications, then it's unfair to tell them that they don't deserve it or screw them out of it in the process via trade.

Say whatever you want about Luka and his conditioning, but if there was one player that deserved the supermax based on All NBA accolades, then its him.

It’s not like it was a one off All NBA appearance that made him eligible for it like we’ve seen previous.

Both the owners and the players agreed to it as well as this new CBA, so it’s unfair for them to bytch about it now.
I didn't say they didn't deserve it. It's not conductive to actual sustainable roster building and premium markets always benefits. They get talent on discount because of these Over Cap salary. Yet, it doesn't benefit them.

It's a broken system that makes easy for the LA and Boston of the world acquire talent at far less than the team that actually drafts them.

But if you wanna win now I imagine there could have been better offers. Would the Bucks have swapped Giannis? Maybe call the Suns and try to get KD & Book?

I’d argue Giannis would be available too simply because of the conversation of him being disgruntled and wanting to leave the Bucks all the time

:comeon: GIANNIS ISNT AVAILABLE....

KD AND BOOK ARE STRUGGLING
FOR THE 3RD STRAIGHT YEAR
AND THATS YOUR BRIGHT IDEA?

It's wild looking back at that 2018 draft class and seeing that damn near everyone has been traded (some numerous times). Basically every notable player aside from Trae and JJJ

8 out of the top 10
20+ of the first round

I wonder how common that is?

I also wonder if this is gonna set a precedent where they amend the super max clauses?

I can imagine agents and the union are gonna push for more protections in contracts due to the financial loss in the situation for the player and agent.

Maybe they make it that if you reach super max eligibility then it has to be a sign and trade situation. I definitely see a Luka clause being created because of this.
It's going to happen a lot. The Leauge really can't contain the talent here in America because it's nowhere else to play besides g-Leauge statewise. We at the point where the g-Leauge itself is going to get to a point where most of it will be former nba players and draft picks. Basically you'll either be a tradeable player, have a good

yeah and he was on the championship track literally to a tee

Lost a conference finals, then lost a finals, he had what it took to get a chip eventually. basically was on the doorstep the exact kind of way jokic, Tatum, Giannis, and LeBron were.
