Didnt' Dallas initiate?
And with no one else, breh you already know it's some bullshyt. Always is. The NBA sometimes is behind this. Remember the KP trade. They wanted to get Luka a star to play with. Didn't work out but they tried. These deals always are just between the two teams and the prices is significantly lower than the market value, just know this is the NBA being a business. Nothing more, nothing less.

If Luka is on the open market, the Lakers would never be able to get him.

imagine the kind of package the lakers could get if they immediately flipped luka :russ:
Exactly! That's all you need to know. Dallas shops AD, you ain't getting no top 100 player for him.

LA shops Luka, they would be able to get Chet, Jalen, 5 1sts, three pick swaps.

The trade value is just insanely off based on the current market.

I been saying it for a minute but a lockout is coming

Salaries out of control and it’s not sustainable

Fam you think the players are making bank and the teams aren’t? League revenue is split 50% so if the players are making more money than ever, so are the teams, a stoppage benefits no one

Also the team owners are the ones who pushed for things like the supermax and 2nd apron. Maybe they should’ve focused on the potential consequences instead of making stopping the Warriors their #1 priority :manny:

And throw in Hartenstein to make the money work

I feel like I’ve said at least 5 times that AD is a great player and the Mavs will still be good this season. The question is how long will he be elite for years to come? Are you comfortable saying that 2-3 years from now AD will still be playing at this level? And if Dallas wasn’t comfortable paying 25 year old All-NBA 1st team MVP finalist Luka the supermax, what happens in those 2-3 years when a 34-35 year old AD can hit free agency and will want to be paid top dollar?

It’s not hard to imagine trade scenarios, it’s hard to know for sure what would’ve came across Nico’s desk for sure bc the opportunity was never given. Off the top of my head OKC, San Antonio, Houston and Orlando all had the ability to offer better packages long term.
I think this is the issue. I am talking proven, actual players and it appears that everyone else is talking possibilities.

Yup. Kyrie has a player option for next year at $43M. What happens if he wants too much or decides to go elsewhere?

How much are they going to want to pay a 35 year old AD when he has a player option for $65M.

And people asking why Dallas would care about deals for the long term when Nico said this was a deal for 3-4 years from now, 10 years from now. Which is why people are questioning trading for a guy that's going to be 32 next month.

Like others have said, if you didn't want to pay Luka, you could've tried to win now this year and if it failed, offer him to the highest bidder. If healthy, no one would want to see that team in the playoffs.

Someone wants to say AD is a top five talent, I wouldn't push back on that at all, I'd agree with it 100%. But to me, there's probably a few guys in the league where their presence on the team makes that team a threat, regardless of what's surrounding them. They've got a mediocre supporting cast but they'll carry the squad on their back, average 42 in a series, show up in the clutch, make the team feel invincible because he's creating open looks for them and making things easy for them. Luka is in that small group, AD isn't. The Mavs are now led by two great #2s and I guess the hope is that there's a switch and Klay goes back to 2017 Klay for a month or so?
