If they wanted to truly win now, then they keep Luka.

Quite clearly winning wasn't the priority in all of this, it came secondary to them not wanting to pay Luka. They could've easily had one last playoff run with him, and then traded him in the offseason, where they could've potentially got a better win now package than they currently got. And not only that but if they decide at the end of this season they don't want to win now, they could've easily traded Luka for a package that sets them up in the future.

They can't do either of those things now.
Again, I have no issues with people having issues with the trade. Like I said, I would not have done it. However, I do disagree with the perception they got nothing in return when they got AD in return who is still arguably a top 10 player in the league.

We know what players exist in the league. We know how much they make. Shouldn't be that hard. My whole point is people are taking this definitive stance like AD is some really nice piece and not the best 2 way big in the league and like there are these obvious superior options and like the trade game hasn't been changed.

I feel like I’ve said at least 5 times that AD is a great player and the Mavs will still be good this season. The question is how long will he be elite for years to come? Are you comfortable saying that 2-3 years from now AD will still be playing at this level? And if Dallas wasn’t comfortable paying 25 year old All-NBA 1st team MVP finalist Luka the supermax, what happens in those 2-3 years when a 34-35 year old AD can hit free agency and will want to be paid top dollar?

It’s not hard to imagine trade scenarios, it’s hard to know for sure what would’ve came across Nico’s desk for sure bc the opportunity was never given. Off the top of my head OKC, San Antonio, Houston and Orlando all had the ability to offer better packages long term.

Thank you. People keep missing the "win now" aspect of this. Regardless if fans think they can or cannot win, THEY think they can, so that's how they're going to approach the trade talks. With intentions of helping them win right now. Which AD does far more than a bunch of picks over the next 5 years.
How is trading the franchise cornerstone that just lead your team to the NBA finals a win now move? What has AD done as the number one option? A second round exit with the Pelicans?
I don't value picks like that :manny:. And if Luka is what we all think he is, then those picks ain't gonna be shyt anyway.
That 2025 Atlanta pick can possibly get you Cooper Flagg. Hawks just lost seven straight and are selling a lot of their roster at the deadline

Somebody fukked somebody mom and Luka had something to do with it.

I still can't comprehend why ... Both these players should play together.

If the Coli put up a poll yesterday morning asking who is the most untradable Luka would probably run away with the poll or be one of the top 3 at worst. AD wouldn't even be on the list.

:mjlol:
If ad got traded for cam Johnson, cam Thomas and 4 first rounders I wouldn’t have been surprised.

All he has to do is maintain close to peak weight, and ball every night then boom Dallas would've blew the bag on him.

Let's be real with ourselves. He gave them every reason not to wanna pay him maximum digits.

Then to make matters worse Emblid, PG, K. Leonard and Beal were prolly giving the Mavs front offices nightmares of what giving him the max could be become.
Luka balls every night.

What the fukk is your dumbass even talking about?

Mavs not paying Luka has absolutely nothing to do with his weight. Don't fall for the okey doke. In reality, he gave them every reason to pay him the supermax. He brought them back from irrelevancy and generated them a ton of revenue along the way. Other than Jokic, Steph and Giannis, no other player has done more for their respective franchise over the last half a decade.

I can't believe some of y'all are so hung up on this conditioning bullshyt.

Was conditioning a problem when he averaged 40 minutes last postseason and took them to the Finals?
