From NBC:
The final three: We can say with a high degree of confidence that Mitt Romney’s vice-presidential pick has largely come down to three men: former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty, U.S. Sen. Rob Portman, and House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan. And it’s more than possible that Romney has already made up his mind. All three VP finalists bring something different to the table. Pawlenty is the loyal outsider, who would enable a Romney-Pawlenty ticket to run as former governors vowing to take on Washington; Pawlenty also potentially would add some blue-collar appeal to the ticket. Portman would be the insider, someone who knows the ways of Washington and who could help govern starting on Day 1. And Ryan would be the crusader, who wants to substantially transform America’s entitlement programs and who would excite a good portion of the GOP’s conservative base. Indeed, Ryan has emerged a VERY REAL possibility, but he also brings the most risk. If Romney selects him, it’s more than conceivable that the dominant campaign discussion in the fall won’t be the economy -- but rather the deficit and Medicare. Of course, there was already a good chance the Ryan plan will get plenty attention regardless of Romney’s VP pick.

This bums me out I was hoping he would pick somebody intersing to inject some energy into this election. A Christie, Condi, Jindal, Petraeus, or Rubio pick would have at least been interesting.
I would also have thought that the Romney camp would not want to go into the deep water of the election season with the optics of their campaign being such a lily white guy ticket. Its going to look like that scene from Trading Places in the country club where those dudes were singing about Muffy.

I think all 3 are safe picks Ryan being arguably the least safe but not in any way a shot in the dark like the Palin pick was. ROmney is alreayd being painted with the Ryan Plan brush and Ryan is not a complete dolt when confronted with a microphone and camera in his face like Palin was.

Uncertain grounds
Im glad he didnt pick Christie, it would marginalize Christie if/when Romney loses. Christie will be the Repub nominee the next time around.

out of those 3, id go with Portman. he was great in the debates and has more of an established aura to him than pawlenty does imo. i think ryan is the longest shot of the three. i have heard recently that general p is still in the mix, but who knows.

I like Ryan because he's solid in his philosophy don't know much about Portman other than he is from Ohio and strategically Ohio is needed...Pawlenty can get thrown in the bushes :birdman:
