Like the title says, I’m looking for a book...maybe the equivalent of a lighter/kid appropriate history book...that provides quick profiles or chapters on prominent African American leaders/political figures from the 1700’s-present (definitely open to something that goes back further if it exists). I’d like to get this for my godson so he can start learning af am history, I’d prefer some comprehensive books as opposed to buying a lot of individual ones, but please drop any suggestions you may have. Also, he’s turning 9, so something that’s appropriate for ages 8-13/14 would be best.

People I want him to learn about
  • Booker t
  • WEB du Bois
  • Garvey
  • Tubman
  • Sojourner
  • Fredrick Douglas
  • Madame DJ walker
  • Black panthers - may need its own book
  • G Washington Carver
  • Etc

Thanks!

Not a childrens' book but I know Claude Anderson has a book that fits that bill, I need to get it.

Here are three bookstore selections, the first is from an independent author I follow on IG and the others are two different black owned bookstores in DC. Hope this helps!

I know of a couple - they aren't as specific as you are looking for. But, they were a hit with my niece and nephew. All three are must have IMO.
