Looking back now, the KG trade to the C's was more unfair than the Pau to LA trade

Let's be honest, everyone talks about how Pau going to the Lakers was a

robbery and a steal. But, that KG to the C's trade is more of a steal and an

unfair trade in hindsight now. People keep forgetting that one team was

planning for the future (Grizzles) and the other was planning for the now

(LAkers). The Grizz reached there max with Pau and were one of the worst

teams in the league, so the Grizz took a risk, and traded primarily for Marc

Gasol, who there scouting team kept an eye on, and knew of his potential,

and yes trading Kwame Brown for Pau is dumb, but they had to clear up

cap space, and they got it done, and was able to sign Z-Bo, and look at

the position they are in now, much better situation the franchise has ever

been. Now, lets look back at that KG to the C's trade. Yes, the C's traded 7

guys, primarily Al Jefferson to the T'Wolves, but where are those 7 guys

the T'Wolves got now? Big Al got hurt a bunch of times and was traded to

Utah, and the rest are all on different teams, and the team didn't improve

at all. As good as Big Al is, is he better than KG? Hell no. While Marc Gasol

has already surpassed and is better than Pau. Yes, the Wolves have a

promising 2-some of Rubio and Love now, but the franchise haven't had a

winning record since the 2003-2004 season. So far, the Grizzles made out

better than the Wolves and have done a lot better than the T'Wolves

franchise so far. Discuss.

The Gasol trade was never unfair.

The Lakers got Gasol but they sent back his younger brother, Kwame Brown's expiring contract, Crittenton, Aaron Mckie, and two first round draft picks.

People were just salty that the Lakers pulled off a great deal that kept them competitive so they tried framing it as a straight up trade of Gasol for Kwame.

Nobody gives a shyt about what Minnesota got. They OWED KG for wasting so many years of his career, so he deserved to go wherever he wanted.

At the time that's all it really was. People had some hope for Crittenton back then though.

People were high on Marc Gasol at the time too. The Lakers needed immediate help because Bynum went down. Otherwise they would have waited to bring in Marc instead of trading for Pau in the first place.

I call bullshyt.

First of all, the jewel that was going to Memphis in the Pau trade was supposed to be Crittenton, NOT Gasol. Crittenton was a highly touted one and done with Georgia Tech that many thought could be really good in Memphis. He simply flamed out. Gasol ultimately salvaged the trade, but they made that deal not really expecting shyt from Marc Gasol. Hell they thought so highly of Marc Gasol after a year of actually seeing him, they drafted Hasheem Thabeet #2 overall.

The package itself wasn't bad at all. What McHale proceeded to do afterward was ruin the pieces he received.

Theo Ratliff was simply cap relief, because at the time, the Wolves were spending luxury tax money. His money came off the books that summer and Minny hasn't been close to the tax since.

Al Jefferson was the big prize and he was worth the trade. Was he good enough to be the PF of this team for many years to come? Yes. What McHale fukked up on was attempting to make him the face of the organization. He wasn't good enough to be that and Al knew that. Al while he was here produced. He tore his ACL during his 23/11 year but that was it. He didn't get hurt a bunch of times while he was here so I don't know where that came from. McHale ruined it all for Al when he traded for Kevin Love. He ruined his biggest asset by doing that.

Gerald Green was worth developing. Instead, he declines his option to give that PT to fukking Rashad McCants, and then after Green gives the team a lil pub during the dunk contest, never plays him and trades him to Houston. He never gave Green a shot. Big failure on his part when developing is part of rebuilding.

Gomes was solid. I can't complain about him. He was OK. Nothing special, but he was fine.

Telfair turned out to have the longest tenure of any of them. He never became a star, but he was worth a look.

We got a first rounder out of it (turned out to be Ellington) and got another first rounder back that McHale foolishly traded away.

No they weren't. All Marc was at the time was Pau's fat little brother that played ball in Memphis high schools. Marc was stashed away because physically he was in no condition to come over (he was damn near 300 pounds; the difference between Marc then and now is Love-like). Marc didn't blow up until he won ACB MVP in '08, the year after the Lakers drafted him.

 at how people continue to try to act like Marc Gasol becoming the team's center was the plan all along. In all of the stories about the trade, people in the Memphis organization raved about Crittenton's potential. Marc Gasol wasn't even mentioned in the writeups other than a little "weird news" blurb that said how one brother was traded for another. The Grizzlies wanted cap relief and young talent and I bet the only reason they ended up with Marc Gasol is because the Lakers weren't willing to part with Sun Yue.

:shaq2: At Al Jefferson being worth a MVP. Trade was trash

And of course the Grizzles had no idea how good how Marc was, I mean he was only half way through his MVP season at the time of the trade. :comeon:

"He would fit," Wallace said, describing the 7-1, 265-pounder as much improved and an offensive dynamo. "He would be a very good addition to the team. All good additions are important right now. We'd like to get him in here, and I think he's ready to come over. He's really made a tremendous improvement, one of the most startling you'll see. He's a key reason why we made this deal. He was a second-round pick last year. There's no question he'd go in the first round this year.

Quote from April of 08, maybe he made the greatest two month transformation of all time.
