Server Issues: A letter from the SoHH.com Founders - ProjectCOVO.com Global Forum
SoHH.com Forum Members:
I'm writing to address you directly regarding the deterioration of the SOHH.com forums.
As you know, my partner and I started SOHH.com in 1995 and the forums were the foundation of the site. The forums quickly became recognized as a the most vibrant online hip-hop community and spurned many spinoffs and copycat forums. Many of you have been members for several years and can remember our craziest and most hilarious moments.
In 2007, we partnered with Buzznet.com, an online social media/entertainment website, to create a joint website that would enhance the SOHH forum user experience with cool social media bells and whistles. That website, as you may recall, was called "TheDougie.com." The SOHH.com forums, located previously at www.sohh.com/forums were moved to Buzznet's servers at would was supposed to be their temporary domain, ProjectCovo.com.
Unfortunately, SOHH forum users never truly adopted TheDougie and Buzznet decided they no longer wanted to invest resources into the joint venture. However, though the contract stipulated a return of the SOHH Forums back to SOHH.com's parent company, Buzznet did not return the forums to us, claiming they were owed money for the joint venture. As such, the forums have remained under the Buzznet servers since 2007 and the responsibility to maintain and monetize them has solely been Buzznet's.
Now, almost five years later, SOHH.com has reached out to Buzznet to broker a return of the SOHH.com forums. What prompted us was the continual user complaints of server issues and problems. We brought the server issues to their attention and asked for the return of the forums to SOHH.com's parent company. Buzznet refused and we have begun legal proceedings. Unfortunately, they've also not improved server maintenance which is what was stated was our most urgent issue -- legal negotiations aside.
We are doing what we can to work through this, but legal proceedings can be long. In the meantime, due to Buzznet's failure to maintain the forums appropriately, traffic on the SOHH.com servers have declined more than 500% and continues every week this issue is unresolved.
Many of you have personally invested years on SoHH.com forums and desire to do something to help. As the most urgent priority is to improve server performance, I'd suggest that you email Buzznet and urge them to "improve server performance on the SOHH forums at projectcovo.com."
You can contact them directly at Jay Westlin at jay@buzznet.com / 323-203-1332 or 310-713-4333 and the owner, Tyler Goldman at tyler@buzznet.com / 310-625-2339.
We look forward to working this out with Buzznet for the sake of all of you who call the SOHH.com forums home. Thank you for your concern and your action.
Regards,
Steven Samuel
