Paul Krugman riles fellow pundits - POLITICO.com

New York Times economics columnist Paul Krugman seems to be testing the patience of a couple of his fellow pundits on ABC's "This Week."

Conservative commentator George Will and former White House aide Mary Matalin both directed pointed remarks at Krugman Sunday that broke with the good-natured banter common among the guests on Sunday political talk shows.

After Krugman called House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan's budget a "fake document" and the columnist said he was "amazed that people haven't gotten that," Will unsheathed his verbal sword and went at Krugman.

"I have yet to encounter someone who disagrees with you who you don't think is a knave, or corrupt, or a corrupt knave," Will said, borrowing a phrase founding father Alexander Hamilton used to rail against those unwilling to respect the good faith of their political opponents.

"Are you an economist or a polemicist?" she asked with an expression suggesting she found the Princeton professor and winner of the 2008 Nobel Prize in economics to be insufferable. "Do you want to talk about economy or do you want to talk about polemics?" she said.

You don't have to agree with him, but a hack? He's made valuable contributions to economics and won a Nobel prize in the field for his work on trade patterns.

Krugman isn't a hack. Much of his work is quoted by Conservative economists all the time and considered general knowledge in econ.

Have you ever read a Krugman column? He always attacks the speaker with names and insults. In virtually every piece he writes, Krugman describes Republicans as radicals, extremists, idiots, etc.

The worst example was four years ago when the Tea Party first started to gain steam. Krugman would literally write a column every week calling them violent and trying to link them with violent acts. Just an hour after Congresswoman Gabbie Giffords was shot in Arizona, he had a post on his blog pointing the finger at Sarah Palin and the Tea Party for the actions of the shooter.

Falsely blaming innocent people for murder in an effort to score political points is the definition of a hack. Sadly, Krugman is a huge idol to many of the nutcases on the left.
