Logic hits a new career milestone.

Logic's album Everybody is having a major resurgence nearly a half-year since its initial release this past spring, due in large part to the recent success of the single "1-800-273-8255." A poignant track that is at first very raw and sad but ultimately ends on a hopeful note, the song has helped those who struggle with mental illness and the dark emotional territory that comes with it a space musical space and, in some ways, a loving companion that they've never met or spoken to in person. Now, Logic's track has skyrocketed up the charts and helped him secure a new milestone in his music career.

According to HDD, "1-800-273-8255" is set to become the rapper's first No. 1 single on the Billboard Hip-Hop/R&B charts, ending DJ Khaled's 18-week run in the top spot. Beginning with "I'm The One" and segueing into "Wild Thoughts," it's been a summer that Khaled has dominated for a long stretch of time, but this achievement from Logic is significant in more ways than one. First, it proves that a strong live performance, be it in concert or, in this case, at a TV awards show, can influence record sales. Logic's astounding "1-800-273-8255" performance, which was one of the highlights of this year's MTV Video Music Awards, have had a part in the single's increased sales numbers. With a 258% increase in sales numbers, the song nearly doubled the intake from "Bodak Yellow" over the same time period.

Second, you have the subject matter of the song, which is incredibly dark for a No. 1 hit, even by normally hard-bitten hip-hop standards. Speaking with Genius, Logic revealed that the lyrics are gleaned from real-life encounters with fans. "[...] fans that I met randomly, they’ve said things like, 'Your music has saved my life. You’ve saved my life.' And I was always like, 'Aw so nice of you. Thanks,'" the emcee explained. "And I give them a hug and shyt but in my mind, I’m like, 'What the fukk?' [...] And then it hit me, the power that I have as an artist with a voice. I wasn’t even trying to save your life. Now what can happened if I actually did?" Big ups to Logic for the accomplishment!
