I'm sure most of the denizens of The Lounge are familiar with Liz Phair's first record.

But jesus christ ... this is one of the best albums of the 90s. Not rock albums, not female albums. ALBUMS.

This record is as about as important to me as "illmatic."

It's simply brilliance. And, not so coincidentally ... she's from chicago.

(I don't really know how to post videos, so let's see if this works)

I always liked Alanis Morrisette better..who's that female singer where she had a video where she was singing underwater? Is it Mazzy Star? I can never find it on YouTube..

No offense, but Morrisette should not even be mentioned in the same sentence as Liz Phair ... ESPECIALLY not with Phair's debut. To me, that's like saying you like Good Charlotte more than Black Flag -- you're entitled, but i'd have no problem telling you that you're wrong.

Not sure about a video of a girl singing underwater. Mazzy Star's big hit was "fade into you." I had the cassette - but don't remember the video.
