Living Social/Groupon meals

Has anyone used a Groupon or LS deal to try out a restaurant? What was your experience? Did you get charged tip for the deal amount or for what the meal valued for?

I see a few I want to buy..

can't speak for living social, but my girlfriend and i use groupon regularly
she likes those small ethnic restaurants that always be on there

it's always been a smooth transaction in my experience
but i say we are doing a groupon deal upfront so they know it's coming

i tip on meal value, example: last deal was $20 credit for $12
the bill was $26 - $20 = $6 and i left a $5 tip (~20% on $26)

the caliber of restaurants varies a lot
one time we were the only people in there,, they still fukked up our order
