Lil Wayne‘s new album Tha Carter V generated a total of $3.3 million in the opening week of it being released (September 27th to October 3rd).

The numbers come from HITS Daily Double, who had only C5 tracks in their top 10 highest-earnings songs last week. “Mona Lisa” featuring Kendrick Lamar topped the list with a gross amount of $335,141.

All 23 records from Tha Carter V also appeared in the top 50 highest-earning tracks of last week with the lowest-earning song being “Dope New Gospel” featuring Nivea at No. 41, which gained a gross total of $74,438.

These are amazing numbers for a new album considering the last major first-week project was Eminem with Kamikaze that generated a total of $1.8 million! Congratulations to Wayne, but I wonder how much of this $3.3 million he will receive?!

It wasn’t free to produce and record this also. Prolly nothing. And if I could guess, I would say he spent no less than 10 mill on this, so it’ll eventually recoup and generate profit, but for now, 0 dollars

That plus a tour, I’m sure...glad things looking up for Wayne.
Y'all still think major artists get paid off touring :russ::russ::russ:

Just as many hands(execs, agents) in the pot, overhead, staff etc. The "right" people will get you booked for 100k+ a show as long as you give up a big slice of pie. It's a racket. Nobody makes big money, unless certain people are getting paid off it

I’m not hating at all I’m glad that an actual MC is at the top of the charts but the money is funny. Did they add up all the money from the different streaming services at their different rates? Either way it IS one way to quantify success for an album just seems kind of corny to do it in money like real reachy somehow. I just can’t help thinking about how i’ve had every major streaming service besides Apple but I’ve never paid for any of them haha I actually pay for albums I support and stream everything else for free. shyt I might even stream an album I bought just cause I already have the app open. It’s also kind of frustrating that every single track on that chart is on a major label which points to the obvious fact that it’s fixed in a way still even without retail stores being a factor. You can’t even play the game unless you’re on a team. How come these no name mfs on YouTube can get a hundred trillion views but the track is never on the charts?
