Lil homie I used to Mentor just became an Eagle Scout DAPS and REPs

Before a couple fukk nikkas come in here hating, scouting is a great organization that a lot of black children should be in. You get to learn about nature, learn basic survival skills, and get to help the community. What a lot of nikkas don't realize is that the rank of eagle scout can't open doors in jobs and colleges.
So my junior year of high school i volunteer to mentor this middle school breh who's been getting into trouble. I became friends with him over the year, helped him with his homework and shyt, and we were cool. When i was at the vending machine in the school he saw my eagle scout card and asked what it was. I told him about and got him hooked up with a troop. So i eventually leave for college and so i look on Facebook and see he had his eagle scout ceremony.
This breh is now in sports, doing good in school, got a job, and on top of that he's an eagle scout.
Im so proud.

I was in Scouts. I reached Star scout, so take my dap.

Also if I have a son, I plan on putting him in scouts and my daughter in girl scouts. I've had a life long interest in nature and just a general curiosity about the world around me. This in turn I think led to my overall intellectual development. I attribute scouts for fueling that as a child and plan to allow my child to experience the same.

I'll say this, I think there should be more black people in scouts than there were when I was coming up. However I remember one senior scout in my troop who was a black dude and who I used to hang out with and who used to mentor me. We need more people like that.

True story. My mom wouldn't let me be in the boy scouts because she saw somebody used the "two finger" sign and she claimed it was for "white people."

I brought it up to her awhile ago and she got incredibly defensive about it but I remember the moment as clear as day.

You know...you can start a scout troop in a black community if you want. I know there are a few of them out there. I remember sometimes, going to the larger campouts during the summer and there were a few predominately black troops out there. Unfortunately, since I lived on a very mixed side of town, the closet troop near me was not predominately black. There were maybe 3-4 of us out of 50 or so scouts I think.

It doesn't take much at all to start one supposedly. The local organization will help you with startup cost and you only have to meet certain fees and member requirements. You could always get donations or help fund equipment costs.

We painted the jungle gym for neighborhood elementary school
Read to sick kids at hospitals
Helped tutor kids at our mainly black schools
And the adults in the troops were fathers of the kids in the troop
