ST. LOUIS COUNTY • Police on Friday identified a teenager fatally shot Thursday afternoon in St. Louis County by an 11-year-old boy as Lamonte Streeter, of the 10800 block of Vorhof Drive.
Police said crime scene evidence shows that Streeter, 16, was fatally shot while inside the home. It happened about 2:25 p.m. in the 10700 block of Hallwood Drive, around the corner from Streeter's home.
That evidence would contradict witness accounts from some neighbors who said Streeter was standing outside the front door when the child shot him once in the head.
St. Louis County police said that the teen was killed as he was trying to break into the home. Streeter's body was found in the front foyer of the home.
Police have said there were at least two break-in attempts at the home a few hours before the shooting. The children’s mother told police she had purchased the gun for protection because the family experienced previous break-in attempts.
The shooter was home with his 4-year-old sister and used his mother's handgun to shoot Streeter, officials said. Police said the children's parents were not home at the time.
Police said Streeter was with Stevieon Jackson, 22, who lives on the same block of Hallwood, when Streeter was killed. Police arrested Jackson and sought burglary charges against him but prosecutors took the case under advisement without filing charges. Jackson would be released Friday night if no charges are filed.
Police said their investigation is continuing and are asking anyone with information about the case to call detectives.
