his lyrics were on point for the most part, but DAMN some of the beats were seriously lacking (why did he work with swizz beatz???????)

nice cuts:
big pimpin (classic)
hova song trilogy (LOVE that)
nymp
dope man
watch me (us version)
is that yo chick (european version)
jigga my n**** (bonus track - next to money cash hoes, this is Swizz' only good beat he ever made for Hov)

some terrible stuff:
S carter (f*** swizz)
anything (atrocious hard knock life ripoff beat)
do it again (thats a club song? gtfoh)
things that u do (f*** swizz)
girls best friend (f*** swizz)
so ghetto (cure for insomnia. man premos stuff is so repetitive. nas is like this is not)

It definitely wasn't the knockout it should've been, but it had enough good stuff to keep him out there. I remember him saying he was trying to make an event album where every song on there could be a hit... I don't feel like his mind was right on this one. It sounds like that's what he was tryin' to do, but didn't pull it off at all. Some of it was tryin' toooo hard like the Mariah joint and "Anything". And then some of 'em were just way too derivative to stand out... like "S. Carter", "Pop 4 Roc", "Watch Me"... just sounded like some generic shyt anybody could've made. He has the standout joints to thank for that album being a success. This one, IMO, is his laziest work ever. Even an album as weak as Kingdom Come still shows him trying to be a lil' ambitious musically... Life and Times is a better album, but he was on straight coast mode for most of it.

One of my favorite Jay-Z albums. I combined the tracks from the domestic release with tracks from the import version :ahh:

I had the international version which I think is better than the U.S. version. I just think Swizz and Timbaland were hit and miss on it. It's a solid LP though but "S. Carter" was one of the worst songs in Jay's career. I bumped it hardboy when it dropped but it wasn't better than Vol 1 or 2. My version did have "Anything" on it and I always loved that song even though it was nothing more than "Hard Knock Life part 2" sampling a Broadway show. Also "Is That Yo B!tch" without Bleek was WAY hotter and Jay murdered his 3 verses. The Source giving the album 4 MICS back then I think. This album Legacy though was it was the 1st #1 album of the year 2000 and Jay getting Un, Biggie's partner actually stabbed for bootlegging the international version which dropped a month earlier.

My Joints:

All 3 Hova Songs
Anything
Is that yo B!tch (No Bleek)
Dope Man
Big Pimpin
There been a murder
NYMP
Snoopy Track
Come and Get Me
Do it again
So Ghetto

So I did like most of the album.

This was a big release, for us that actually copped it back in 99, I got it from Sam Goody, it was like 21.99 or something like that, 'Do It Again' had everyone excited for this one. And, just like the album intro, I remember getting home tearing the packaging off the cd, and throwing this on. Had some filler, but at 14, sometimes you like the garbage shyt too, I used to fukk with 'Pop 4 Roc', and 'Snoopy Track', but right off my favorite track was 'Come Get Me', & 'Dope Man'. It's a good Jay album, the middle is kinda weak, but the last 4 tracks are solid, and the first 4 too.
