Life Lessons From Professional Wrestling
I have a confession to make, I am a 30 year old wrestling fan. One of the greatest thing my dad ever did for me was introduce me to wrestling. I can remember being a young Redhands watching wrestling on Saturdays taking my vitamins and saying my prayers because of Hulk Hogan. Some people get professional wrestling, and some don’t. Even if you don’t get wrestling, you can still learn something from it.
Wrestling is a combination of athletics, drama, comedy, story telling and just plain old fun. Not only do you have to be extremely athletic and a good wrestler, but you also have to be good on the microphone. Wrestlers are constantly on the road and perform 3 to 5 nights a week. Sure some athletes can catch a ball and some actors can act, but can an actor catch a ball and act? Can a football player catch a ball and act? I don’t think so.
In life we can learn a lesson or a message from any situation. Pro wrestling has taught me so many life lessons and helped me become a better person. From the physical shape they are in, to the charity work that they do, the rock star lifestyle they live and to the journey of performing for 30 people in a gym to 18,000 people in an arena.
Let’s look at some of the life lessons you can learn from professional wrestling, brother.
Training to be Something
Many wrestlers are life time fans themselves, chasing the dream. They train hard for years before they even make it into the WWE, let alone become a top guy. It took Stone Cold Steve Austin from 1989 to 1998 to just become the stone cold character. Stone Cold had to train his ass off and work through different promotions and gimmicks before he became the stone cold son of a bytch that he is.
The moral of the story is if you want to be something, you have to train for it.
It’s a celebration bytches
Never Give Up
Whether you love to hate John Cena or hate to love him, he never gives up. In the past, John Cena has gotten hurt and every time he gets hurt he comes back weeks earlier than the doctors recommend. John goes above and beyond his training and rehab to be the best athlete he can be. Not to mention, John Cena was picked on and bullied as a kid and now he’s a super hero to kids around the world.
The moral of the story is to never give up and keep fighting!
Never give up, telling John Cena he sucks
To be the Man, You Gotta Beat the Man
One of Ric Flair’s favorite quote is “In order to be the man, you gotta beat the man” and this is 100% true. Sometimes, it just depends on who the man is to beat. Is it a coworker? a bully? Or is it yourself? If you are struggling with yourself you gotta beat yourself up in order to become the man. Deep down inside we are all the man, but sometimes we have to beat ourselves or our obstacles to bring out the Ric Flair inside us all.
Whoooooooooooo
Excellence of Execution
Are you excellent at what you do? Are you executing every day? Are you excellent at executing? Bret Hart is known as the excellence of execution because he is one of the best technical wrestlers in the history of the sport. Bret’s had amazing matches with 500 pound men like Yokozuna, to the great 60 minute iron man match with a 6 foot Shawn Michaels. When you are excellent at executing you can take on any obstacle or opponent.
Starting From the Bottom
Many people believe Vince McMahon grew up rich and was just handed everything. The truth is Vince had a rough life growing up. Vince’s parents divorced when Vince was at a young age. Vince grew up in a trailer park in North Carolina with his mom and her various boyfriends and husbands. Some of them were abusive to Vince and his mom and he used to fight them. Vince ended reconnecting with his father Vince Sr. who at the time owned the WWWF. Vince Jr. started to help promote the WWWF with his day before he took it over and changed it to the WWE. Long story short, Vince buys the WWWF from his dad and makes it into the powerhouse that it is today.
After reading this post I hope you’ve either learned something or gain a new found respect for wrestling. And if your not down with that I got two words for ya, thanks for reading.
