get these nets

Hello all,
Purchased microsoft office 2010 professional plus a few years back....opted to get the disk.
Worked great for years.
Tossed computer out recently and visitors moved around the office disk. Still had the key, so downloaded the same version and put the key in and it was recognized as an invalid key.
Until I locate the original disk, just going to use Libre Office. In the past have heard horror stories about Open Office and people not being able to view, save, or edit WORD files. How is Libre different from Open Office and what restrictions exist?
Using a laptop running Windows 7, if that matters.
Thanks in advance.
