So right now I am getting very into politics and am actually getting very active in my community.
I have spent a great deal of time looking for a couple of questions to be answered since I find a majority of my peer group (white privileged males) call themselves Libertarian, but then will get very angry when I ask these questions. I just want to understand the stance, not here to argue.
1) So to my understanding Libertarians want a free market to exist with no gov interference. The problem is I can only think of one instance in which this existed in America, that was the mob in the prohibition era. That is the only time I can think of when such a market place existed in pragmatic approach how would such a system exist if gov was not in place to run the structure? Would we assume that people would violent crime increase due to self regulation of your property? My big question is what would be a good example of a free market? How could a system be realistically set up in the real world present day and what would be steps in order to set up a Libertarian vision of the U.S.A. for the next 20 years of the economy? Also I have heard that people view the 1950s as a prime era of Libertarian free market place, if so how did sexism and racism (both of which still exist , but on a more repressed manner - which may be worse since we don't deal with it on a social level , but feel as though "we" [white people] have moved passed it) impact the free market?
2) As for social security if it is cut what would be the plan to protect the middle class? The social institution was put in place by FDR during the time of the great depression to make sure man and women would not work a whole lifetime and have nothing, why at the forefront of another economic crisis would we consider cutting this function other money? In 2004, W wanted to privatize social security before the markets crashed if we privatized then over 50 % of Americans would of lost everything, what would be the safety net be or would it be viewed as you are not smart enough to keep your money? Private social security looks a lot like how the elite gamble with money in stocks yet the average person does not have enough money to gamble with and furthermore it seems from my perspective that Social Security is viewed as welfare as though it is shameful to even accept such a check if you are elite. For the non elite what are you views on this? Also how do you feel about the retirement age raising as well which means in essence privatizing of social security?
