most demonic and shady industry ever?
i looked into lab made diamonds a while back for my wedding ring stone only to find the diamond companies monopolize the industry and limit the amount of high quality lab made diamonds that can be sold on the market because they already know people would be on them like flies on shyt if they were more easily accessible. the quality "lab made" stones usually look better imo (less imperfections). imagine if people could get these instead of paying ridiculously inflated prices for a so called "rare" stone which isn't really rare at all.

Good thread. IMO all diamonds are blood diamonds and I will never support that industry.

But I thought the "artificial" diamonds would be a good substitute guess I was wrong

i mean you can find them but you've really gotta hunt and they're almost as expensive as the real thing which is still better because at least no one had to die for them. fact is without chemical testing NO ONE can tell the difference (even seasoned diamond experts can't tell by eyeing or microscope) between a real diamond and a lad made diamond. that terrifies the diamond industry so they've put the clamp down on them. they have so much power it's ridiculous. :pacspit:

eh I consider the anti diamonds sentiments a bit misplaced. Blood diamonds are specifically sourced from certain regions and can be avoided. The other concerns about bad labor conditions and captured lands in extraction are equally true for many other jewels. And minerals too; a lot of what's in your phone or car is from slavery-level labor conditions in countries with pretty unaccountable governments

So what

It's still a useless rock with an artificial value due to market manipulation and brainwashing tactics

and that's mainly my issue with them. the price gouging...hoarding of stones..blocking of competitive options and general thuggery of the whole industry.

now you're conflating the "blood diamond" thing with your feelings on the commerce and advertising aspects. I don't think it's any more useless than many things we buy. You think the Nike ✔ isn't brainwashing?

You literally called it "demonic" and I'm just saying an objective analysis would say many items fall into claim. Especially things like smartphones and other electronics that use valuable minerals

but at the same time no one's forced to buy them. for that matter, people buy them because they're expensive

ultimately it seems it's society's fault for continuing to give value to these frivolous things
