They both use the same frequency range so I'd go with the sub. The adsr can always be moded to act like an 808 and blended with a kick to give you the same feel. I often use then both in the same songs tho. If I had to choose one over another it would be a sub. I grew up in the 80s and 90s when they were used way more then 808s.

Technically an 808 is a sub. The term "808" refers to a type of drum machine and bass synthesizer that produces low-frequency sounds, commonly used in electronic music genres. The term "sub" is often used to describe deep, low-frequency bass sounds. Therefore, an 808 can be considered a sub because it generates sub-bass frequencies. an 808 is just a kick under the sub, you can mix any sub- bass mold it, and blend it with a kick to achieve said result you can have a kick without the sub, but you can't have an 808 without sub, so for that reason the answer is sub.
