It was that Saturday (the Sturgis PPVs were on Saturday)Man i remember watching this live as an 11 year old bruh. shyt is how beautifully executed this was....only for Luger to drop the title the following week i believe
He more or less had to.
It's just a shame that did nothing with Luger after this. He didn't really do anything in 98-99 until they called him "The Total Package" but even then, he was done.
This was still one of the best storyline arcs in WCW. Lex was a heel, but Sting always held him down and defended him. They were heel and face, respectively, but their friendship went above that. NWO fukkkery starts. Then, NWO claims they have Sting and Luger starts popping shyt about Sting.
Sting comes in Fall Brawl and fukks everybody up and then leaves, because, fukk WCW. Luger gets absolutely destroyed and is left screaming "IM SORRY, STINGER! STING, COME BACK!" in the cage. Next night, Sting cuts a promo with his back towards the camera and while explaining why he was leaving, he let Lex know that even though Lex was a heel, Sting always stood up for him no matter what and that Lex didn't do the same for him. In the meantime, Luger got blamed for WCW losing (even though he got fukked up) and had to essentially start from the bottom. Dude went through Four Horseman and was the first person to accept Giant back to WCW--realizing that he lost Sting because of this. Him and Giant team up and start giving the work to the Outsiders and Luger is finally accepted by the fans.
At this point, he wins his world title shot, and Hogan is doing whatever he can to delay it. Hogan would come out for most of the Spring popping shyt, but barely ever wrestling. When he finally does, he brings in Rodman. Luger and Giant face them and Luger makes Hogan's bytch-ass tap. Proving that despite all the bullshyt that Hogan is putting him through to delay their match-- he's gonna go through all of it just to beat Hogan's ass.
Finally, the match happens and Luger is kicking Hogan's ass but then the Outsiders and Savage come out. People in the crowd are already groaning expecting the usual NWO fukk-finish, but Randy Anderson was on some "I ain't ringing no fukking bell" and Luger washes all of them. Finally, he lifts that old-racist sunburnt fukker up and makes his bytch ass tap again. Not only winning the title but redeeming himself of his past actions.
Meltzer has been arguing with pretty much everyone on Twitter about it.
It was a fun moment. Wrestling has room for fun
