Let me put it this way. CM Punk and John Cena are head and shoulders better than anyone else in the E right now besides Daniel Bryan who they haven't green lit yet. When those two aren't feuding with each other they coast. That Ryback feud was a disaster after HIAC. Cena and Ziggler was unfocused. But when someone on their level is involved (Rock) they go out there and try to prove they are better. You seen it with those Cena promos last year and Punk's this year. Doesn't matter if the matches weren't good on some star rating system because the fan involvement and intrigue was high.
You wouldn't get that out of Punk if he was facing Sheamus or someone like that. Punk's never been better and that's cause he has something to prove. It's a competition and that's what Rock brings out of those two.
The Coen's and Daniel Day aren't competing fukking Twilight, that's silly. But best believe when Cena says Rock can't hold his jock strap he might believe it.

Yeah, I think he was specifically talking about the "telling" part. Rock can "sell" a story, but when it comes time to actually tell it in the ring...just ain't workin' out.
Those Cena/Punk feuds are always intense and matches always good. Cena allows himself to look much more vulnerable when dealing with Punk. Though smarks would love to believe that EVERYONE hates Cena there's a mutual respect between him and Punk. Even his promos aren't as corny. I don't know why they aren't motivated otherwise.

You tell the story from the moment you step foot through the curtain whether for a match or promo, in ring you show it by how when and how you sell offense, when and how you perform certain acts...
He does that quite well. All veterans (for the most part) do. If he performed like a 25-30 year old Rock, you'd take away any intrigue cause he was practically unbeatable.
It's like trying to clean pin a late 80's, early 90's Hogan
Whereas if you show the character as vulnerable due to real life situations (age/part timing) you tell a more accurate story. A more intriguing story. That's what he did, that's what he does.
It's just story telling. Like I said earlier, what entertains you depends on the story you like being fed.
