I've taken a lot of heat because I understood the future of gaming. I usually do, but in this particular case most of you gotta eat crow. Im talking both sides of the console war debate. Lots of smart ppl here :francis: so let me share some more dumb info...

Sony and how they will use Microsoft's cloud...

A revealing paragraph in a Sony patent for “scalable game console CPU/GPU design for home console and cloud gaming” has sparked speculation that there could be a PS5 Pro, or at least something similar to that, in the works. While the patent appears to focus on the potential of multiple SoCs being used for a cloud gaming service (PS Now), it does seem to indicate that there could be either a PS5 Pro-like console or even PS5 upgrades to turn a regular console into something more “high end”. The section that has been creating a lot of discussion reads:

As understood herein. SoC technology can be applied to video simulation consoles such as game consoles, and in particular a single SoC may be provided for a 'light' version of the console while plural SoCs may be used to provide a 'high-end' version of the console with greater processing and storage capability than the 'light' version. The 'high end' system can also contain more memory such as random-access memory (RAM) and other features and may also be used for a cloud-optimized version using the same game console chip with more performance.

There has already been a rumor that Sony might bump up the specs of the PS5 before launch, which would fit in well with the point above about more memory. The idea of being able to constantly upgrade and tweak a regular PS5 Blu-ray console with additional key components to bring it to a “Pro” standard would certainly appeal to many gamers as opposed to going out and buying a whole new console in three or four years.

Strangely enough, it appears Microsoft has now demoted the Xbox Series X at roughly the same time as the appearance of this Sony patent. The next-gen console was previously advertised as “the most powerful console ever”, but as has been pointed out, the marketing text accompanying the XSX on some country-specific sites (including the US) has now become “the most powerful Xbox ever”. Perhaps the marketing chiefs at Microsoft are concerned that either the PS5 specs bump rumor (if true) or this new “high end” PlayStation 5 Pro-like device in the patent could remove the performance and power advantage the XSX currently claims

More performance it says :jbhmm:

Microsoft dropping the most powerful label :jbhmm:

How could the cloud make a system more powerful, that sounds like some xbox one secret sauce shenanigans. But if Sony is using it I guess it's ok for the rest of you fanboys to recognize it's a real thing :manny:

I've always heard from my sources that the series s would take a similar approach, I've mentioned it. Thread was sent to Courtdog's kennel :hubie:

I got more info too on both consoles but let's see how this thread turns out first...

We’ve yet to see it truly implemented but after playing RDR2 with max settings on a chromecast puck, there’s no doubt in my mind that the cloud can do some next level shyt for games:hubie:

I’m interested to see that first big AAA game with cloud-powered features that can’t be replicated but just a console alone

And so it begins :takedat:

Was you aware that every xbox one was supposed to be always on. Microsoft wanted to use all that shared power to power or games.

But mostly Sony fans literally fear mongered and claimed kinect was made by the CIA to spy on gamers (who are not necessarily criminals thus wasting billions in resources but why use logic) ther cloud was deemed fake and while Microsoft said developers would have to learn how to implement it into game designs the masses claimed that can't happen. Those same masses didn't have a problem with dev's learning cell, they don't seem to mind or worry that they'll learn how to implement the awkward use of a custom SSD.

But the cloud, oh no no no!

I can assure you what you just thought will be reality sooner than later. But I don't believe you'll hear that from your peers
