I'm sure we all know MF Doom was originally in KMD as a youngin. This album was shelved by the label. Was it really that militant for cacs to not release it? I'm just now listening to it for the first time.

This album isn't so much militant as it is Elektra thinking they were getting a knockoff Tribe and the group going hardcore for the 2nd release. It was really the cover and the name that did them in.

I wish we could get the original masters but at this point, they've probably been destroyed :francis:

If you can find someone with the bootleg version. Ok thanks, I'm liking it so far. That group home thread reminded me of it

I was thinking of this album yesterday because of the MC Hammer putting a hit on Sercch because of the Gasface song. Doom had a verse on that joint. Brehs been around since 88

Same sample as this,

except DOOM chopped the random bridge section instead of the main riff

0:00 for Uptown
3:00 for Gas Drawls

Don't think it was because they were too militant. You have to remember, hip-hop was super controversial in this period. It was like what punk rock was in the '70s in the UK. I'm not talking about the stupid gossip shyt and paparazzi nonsense that follows hip-hop in 2018. You had Presidential candidates, civil rights leaders, preachers denouncing specific artists. There were pressure groups and protests revolving around certain albums. Multi platinum artists were getting dropped from labels. Labels who were pulling in millions were losing distribution deals from backlash. Within that context, some lesser known artists and albums really lost out because labels weren't going to risk it unless they knew they were going to make a lot of money. I think if the album had a different title and cover it might have been released.

The controversy around the album has always been more interesting than the album itself.
