I’ve never seen a rapper at the level of Drake as embattled, ridiculed & with more self inflicted wounds throughout his career than Drake (Ja was probably second?)

People have given him shyt every step of the way for various reasons.

He’s soft
He’s a Jew
He sings too much
He grew up well off

None of it is new. We’ve heard it since 2010. On top of that it was well reported his proclivities concerning underage girls.

We’re not talking about what Nas did to Jay or what Cube did to NWA.

The reason why it took so long for a Not Like Us to happen was really an indictment on this generation since the amount of widely popular rappers that take the craft of rapping seriously was like a handful. We’ve seen people go after Drake in the past but they simply didn’t have the necessary cache to make the world care

It's only because he won by a large margin and had the public opinion in his favor that people started switching sides.

Kendrick vs Drake was an easy match up for Kendrick on paper, talent wise, but Kendrick was also fighting the industry...
You had plenty of articles like this, saying no mater what, drake would win...them journalists only came clean after the battle and admitted theyr were approached by ovo lol

OP makes a point tho. Nas and Jay both had a ton of street cred going into the beef, so character assassination was alot harder to accomplish. Drake was already seen as a joke by most real hip hop heads. But at the same time, making the public hate on a pop star the way Kendrick did to Drake is still quite an accomplishment.

Kendrick is always more talented than Drake. And has actual substance and he grew up in the trenches. I always knew Drake would get bodied. It was never an even match IMO.

Kendrick is a far better artist and MC and always has been, also was on of the very artist who can match how polarizing Drake is, hes more respected, revered and coveted by not only by publications and fans, but also other artists (predecessors, contemporaries, and successors). The beef and the consensus turned out exactly how it should've.
