Can anyone play contrasting roles with as much ease as him?

He can play the hardest gangster and kill it. Then he plays the soft spoken/wuss character to perfection

He did it in the same movie(The Whole Town's Talking)

And it's not just one role on each end, like some actors, he has roles on roles

His Wolf(from Seawolf) character is one of films great villains and was super hard on hoes

then his revs up in his Fritz Lang films

Or he can play both in a singular role like Little Giant
