His wife was beyond trash and neither he nor his wife were mentally equipped to raise their daughter properly. It can be beautiful but too many rush into it. It needs to be taken seriously ie needs to be properly planned for. Same with bringing a child into this world. Go ask somebody who builds rockets if they rush the job or if a great deal of planning is done before execution and see what they say.

It's corny but true that you really have to work on yourself before you can take others under your responsibility. This 'just wing it' stuff is dangerous but is rampant and encouraged.

Tl;dr marriage and child rearing takes a lot of preparation. It's not for everybody contrary to popular belief. And that's not a badthing contrary to popular belief!

I hear you. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with wanting more. That’s what drives people to achieve things. I was talking about people that are so self centered they find issues with everything because they can’t see past themselves. Here’s a commencement speech that puts it better. Basically he talks about the importance in choosing what you decide to focus on and perspectives.

being 40 plus...you start to understand Lester's disgust at life and all the bullsh*t we buy into as adults....work....marriage...kids....suburban life ( i could make a thread on that alone)....

Whatever point the film was trying to make was overshadowed by pedo element of the story.
Wasn't surprised that Hollywood and the film critic industry cosigned/overlooked it to praise the film.
