Has nothing to do with being himself. He got a lot of bad advice along the way. Too busy hanging with DJ Clue and Foxy Brown's brother instead of working on his game. That year plus he didn't play organized basketball before the draft cost him big. He's a cautionary tale of what not to do.

Is this a story of a guy just not maximizing his talent or is it deeper than that?

Help me understand this

This title is pure nonsense. Lenny Cooke's failure is on himself. You must have never watched the documentary. Lenny Cooke was lazy and made poor decisions. At the end of the documentary he recognized there was no one to blame but himself

100% facts he should have went to a prep school and played his senior year and then took his ass to St John's and played one year then went to the league. A lot of people want to have revisionist history now, he was a very good player but he was never considered a great Prospect .most people thought he'll max out at Ron Artest which is good but not great or hall of fame level like LeBron or Kobe .

Just watched the full doc a few weeks back and it's not about that. Cooke didn't take it seriously and thought he was just gonna float on because he had made a name for himself. Also the dude was kicking it with the wrong people and taking bad advice from them. :mindblown: this fool didnt play any kind of ball for 12+ months and then declared for the draft lol :snoop: shyt was sad because he was so hopeful early on and fast forward 10 years later he's in the FML Hall of Fame. The doc should be shown to all young athletes, hell all young people in general. Also LeBron was obviously the more talented player.

16 year olds don't have the foresight or experience to see what's best for them.. especially coming from his background...... with that being said, I'd put the majority of the blame on the adults he had around him.......

That documentary on Lenny Cooke was pretty good. The part where I think he went to some camp and this PAWG was sitting in his lap asking him if he was a professional athlete. I can see where shyt like that could go to his head.

He probably didn't realize that making it to the NBA would be based on politics moreso than athletic ability.

People already pretty much wrapped up Lenny already.

Also, LeBron smoked him one on one at a tournament that year Cooke was considered the best and lapped him as a prospect. LeBron arguably the best high school player ever.

From hanging around the wrong people and being trash academically, Cooke fukked it all up.

People around him do deserve blame but ultimately his failure on the court was on no one but him.

Who made him show up late to elite basketball camps? No one

Who made him not take basketball seriously enough? No one

Who made him stay out all night partying at clubs instead of working on his game? No one

I know yall new nikkas have a white washed train of thought, but there aren't too many black impoverished high school kids that are self driven like that.. matter of fact, its a rarity...... I've come up with too many white fukk ups that had access to every resource imaginable, and was able to rebound and get pushed into being successful, until their maturity kicked in and they began to get serious about life......

No one blames a 15/16 year old for their shortcomings without looking at their entire parental/social situation unless said teen is black..... but like I always say.. don't nobody hate nikkas like other nikkas.... :sas2:

White washed train of thought? I love how some of you nikkas always resort to name calling when you have nothing to back up your argument :mjlol:
