Yo I know you nikkas straight clowning OP, but I just watched this movie and am feeling some kind of way about it.
Tom Hanks my nikka but this movie is exactly like OP said. Them somali nikkas are portrayed as some kind of savages. Explain to me how them nikkas all sweaty and shyt when they motherfukken African and the cacs all not sweaty and dry looking. Shouldn't be the other way around? I can't emphasize how much them nikkas were portrayed as some type of savages. shyt was disturbing brehs. I know them nikkas eat khat the drug and it makes them all wild and shyt, but I feel like that should have been explained to the audience. The whole waters are polluted and there are no fish, was a throw away line too.

And what about the nikka playing the negotiator to the Somalis? They got that main cac from the Unit brehs. Some aryan nation looking cac. All them SEAL nikkas were cacs too.

Also all that fire power (two big ass ships, a fukken apache helicopter, SEAL team) for rescuing one cac.
I wonder if they would do all that for a brother?

Also, come oscar time, watch Tom Hanks be surrounded by nikkas (that nikka from the 12 years a slave, The butler nikka, maybe the Fruitvale station nikka) in Best Actor category and he is going to win. I will have the face when he does.

But given that armed pirates actually did take over their ship and hold them for ransom...I thought the film did I solid job of giving them a background that established at least some level of sympathy for their situation. I felt like only the one real wild cat was depicted as a "savage"

Obviously not. But it was some good white vs evil black type situation. I didn't get the sympathy for them, just some throw away lines. Like ol'boy was like maybe in America you can have different jobs etc not in Somalia etc.

I don't think most Americans understand why Somalis resort to pirating. For centuries the waters there were overfished and in recent times nuclear waste/toxic waste was dumped into those waters. So those waters are fukked up. So all them nikkas have left is to pirate these ships, and the ransom money they collect isn't to buy Bugattis and shyt. It is to feed their entire families, various tribes etc.
