So what's next for newly minted IBF middlweight champion, David Lemieux, after his rousing win over Hassan N'Dam in Montreal this past weekend? It looks like his IBF mandatory. Eric Gomez, Vice President and matchmaker for Golden Boy Promotions, explained to BoxingScene.com - "We got the letter already (from the IBF). He's going to have a mandatory. When you win a vacant title you have to do a mandatory next. So we'll see what happens there. He's going to take a break, he's going to go on vacation for a little bit and then we're going to sit down and talk with him and see what's next. It was a great victory and I think he deserves a little rest."
Coming into this past weekend, N'Dam was rated number one by the IBF and Lemieux was fourth. Number two is 'not rated' and Billy Joe Saunders - slated to face Andy Lee in September for the WBO belt - is fourth. At number five is veteran Sam Soliman, who previously held this title. As for a possible showdown with WBA, IBO and WBC interim champion Gennady Golovkin, Gomez stated "We've discussed it and I talked to Tom Loeffler( managing director of K2 Promotions) and I know he's interested. Look, (Lemiuex's) willing to fight anybody and it's just a matter of making the best move and figuring out what's next and figuring out the situation with the IBF."
