It's not his fault.

When you don't have a solid father figure the only way you know how to navigate life is through your mothers eyes to a degree, so him being sassy and dramatic despite being a big strong man who's achieved all kinds of greatness, shows that there is still a little boy somewhere underneath all that still needing to fill that gap of acceptance.

In the context of basketball that makes for all kinds of commentary but person to person, he's just reacting to what life has thrown at him.
