I know I am beyond late, but I have recently downloaded a bootleg version of snow leopard via torrent the file name is snowleopard_10a432_userdvd.dmg Now I have learned how to install it by wiping out my hard drive and starting fresh, but is there a way i can install it without wiping out the programs I have currently installed on my mac, essentially just upgrading the OS? why did you download snow leopard and not lion or mountain lion?


you don't need to wipe your hard drive. just run it as the startup disk using the cd or external harddrive you are using to boot the install

I was told to be able to install mountain lion I would need snow leopard, is there a way around that? if so please share brother, thank you.

Yes leopard I think it's 10.5.8

a few years back i went from leopard to snow leopard(downloaded off the internet) and i remember still having my stuff over. you don't need to erase your hard drive. just like i said earlier, you gonna need to use disk utility to make a bootable copy using a harddrive or flash drive. then use it as a startup disc.
