Purpose of this thread was to respond to ppl saying, why do they make different race versions of established characters.
Well, it's hard to sell.

Successful, meaning at one time they carried their own title for a long run of issues.
Original characters, that aren't based off someone else's design , but they can originate in someone elses title.
Let's count new as debuted in the 90s or later

Marvel
Success: Deadpool, Cable
Deadpool currently doesn't have an ongoing, and Cables got cancelled. But they've had several long runs prior.
Characters that failed: Freedom Ring, Gravity, Hit Monkey

DC
Success: I can't think of any
Failed: A lot. There was the purple Dimension Hopper that kind of looked like Spider-Man recently. Naomi, her series is supposed to be getting continued, but if it was doing well, they wouldn't be doing a huge break

I think it's different with DC, because they were built off legacy, before it became a dirty word like token.

I guess the last breakout character like that for DC would probably be Harley Quinn. Though she debuted in the Batman animated series she immediately blew up once she was introduced in the comics in the 1990s and has been eating ever since.

Yup
Blue Beetle after her, but he's based off an established character

Both of them are considered legacy characters.
I would low-key give Ms.Marvel a pass, just because her powers and origin are completely unrelated
I don't think she's successful in that the majority of comic fans give a fukk about her
Which is cool, because a lot of comics fans are racist and Disney can just pump her up in other media

Would Static count for DC since he was created at Milestone while it was a DC Imprint and he has been integrated into the mainstream DCU?

Yes

But his last series failed, and his new one probably will too. ( Art sucks and too much going on in the first issue)

I should also qualify what I count as new...let's say 90s or later

Wasn't Bendis writing multiple series in 2020? I chalked it up to him being busy. And there's probably stuff involving the CW show slowing down production.

I dunno her solo book seems to be doing and she’s popular enough to a tv show and very large part in the avengers game.

Moon Girl and Silk are legacy

The rest of them have never had a long running title
