Kyrie Irving’s decision to hire his stepmom Shetellia Riley Irving seems to have paid off so far.
As AfroTech previously told you in a 2022 report, Shetellia had been hired as the agent of the former Brooklyn Nets player.
As a result, she became the only Black woman known to be representing an active NBA player, per sports reporter Shams Charania.

“We’ve built trust and consistency,” Shetellia told Sports Illustrated in 2022. “I don’t want Kyrie to come back two years from now saying ‘I signed this really bad deal and it didn’t make sense,’ because he didn’t understand it, or it was just about a money grab. That’s something that we’re really being intentional about, especially in the things that we look to align ourselves with.”

In February 2023, Kyrie was traded from the Brooklyn Nets to the Dallas Mavericks.

Now, it’s said that Kyrie will remain with the Dallas Mavericks.

The Guardian reports the NBA player has agreed to a three-year contract, valued at $126 million, which includes a player option for the third season.

Additionally, CBS 42 reports Kyrie and Shetellia intended to meet with other teams.

“We planned to take the meetings but decided that Dallas would be our place,” Shetellia told CBS Sports, according to Bill Reiter.

While details cannot be confirmed until the free agency moratorium lifts, per The Dallas Morning News, the deal would reportedly make Shetellia the first Black woman to negotiate and complete an NBA contract.

“Big Shoutout to my Agent Shetellia Riley Irving and my business manager Drederick Irving, who did a great job throughout the whole entire process. Thank you A11EVEN MANAGEMENT FIRM,” Kyrie wrote on Twitter.

Shetellia Riley Irving is Kyrie's stepmother and the second wife of his father Drederick. The couple were married in 2004 several years after Kyrie's mother Elizabeth died due to illness when he was four years old.

The Dallas Mavericks guard has a close relationship with his stepmother. She became his agent last year amid all the things happening with Irving and the Brooklyn Nets. She was also the only active black woman agent in the NBA. Speaking to Sports Illustrated, she said:

Before she became Kyrie Irving's agent, Shetellia Riley Irving previously worked for Black Entertainment Television (BET) as vice president of ad sales for 13 years. Riley Irving told Sports Illustrated how her experience at BET will come in handy as her stepson's agent.
