Kovalev: Pascal Was Crazy and Wild, Didn’t Have Heart!
Posted by: David P. Greisman on 3/15/2015

by David P. Greisman

Sergey Kovalev was coming off a much more competitive outing than he’d had in recent years, taking some serious return fire from Jean Pascal before scoring an eighth-round technical knockout.

“It was not easy fight. Every fight not easy,” Kovalev said at the post-fight press conference. “Some fight you’re fighting mentally. Some fight you’re fighting physically. Here it was mentally and physically. His style was very crazy and very wild. He punch very wild and he showed that he doesn’t have a heart.”

He was challenged on that last statement later by a reporter who said Pascal showed plenty of heart, having been knocked down and hurt in the third round, only to battle back.

“You mean I am Terminator?” Kovalev responded.

Kovalev said he was patient in putting Pascal away, rather than trying to finish things early.

“I let him go to continue the fight. I didn’t rush to stop the fight. If I got him one time, I can in the future, the next rounds … He will come,” Kovalev said, adding later: “My goal not to finish in early rounds. I’m ready for 12 rounds.”

Still, Kovalev said he wished he could’ve scored a more decisive knockout.

“I wanted to send him on the floor, deep sleep, but referee stopped the fight,” Kovalev said.

He then switched back and forth between complimenting Pascal and deriding his fallen foe.

“He is good fighter, yes. He is good fighter and he is a good trash talker. He didn’t prove his word because he is trash talker,” Kovalev said at one point.

“He has a good punches. But I didn’t lose balance,” he said at another point. “Yes, I felt, but my brain and my head [are] harder than his knuckles.”

Fight was very disappointing to me. I'm not sure Pascal showed up to fight TBH. His head movement was non-existent walking backwards and the shot Sergey hit him with at that point you could see coming from Neptune. At one point I wondered if Pascal thought because he had success with that right, he was trying to pull counter like he had Floyd's defensive prowess. His movement around the ring was azz too, or maybe Kovalev just cuts the ring off well?

Still, Sergey looked human in that fight, and I'm thinking Adonis' length could be a factor if they clash. I'm assuming he's the longer man, right? Not sure how they size up.

edit post: Not sure why anyone expected anything from Pascal after Hopkins schooled him. Pascal was never the greatest of boxers.

After rewatching dude wasn't the same after that big shot that Eurodemon landed on him it seemed immediately after that dude kept blinking and trying to get his wits back, I'm pretty sure he was probably seeing 4 Kovalevs in the ring for the rest of the fight :mjcry:

Adonis has a 5" reach advantage over Kovalev.

:whew: some guys already shared my sentiment

dude killed someone before and gives no fukks talking like that

though I was just thinking, seeing that Aussie guy's story. some ring deaths are plainly obvious, long sustained brutal fights, others are just really ridiculously unlucky placement on a shot or two. kovalev's was more of a unlucky shot that caused problems rather than a real beatdown. and how that might affect someone less than if he literally beat the life out of someone. i dont know, could be he's just :demonic:
